Lizette’s Kitchen

Words: Crush

For a  taste of genuine Southeast Asian cuisine head to Lizette’s Kitchen in Hermanus.  Located just outside the often-heaving town centre, it is a sunny spot where you can kick back and enjoy an ice cold beer and great food. The Asian-inspired food is light but so layered with flavour that you can enjoy a couple of courses easily. Owner, Lizette Crabtree, spent years as a head chef in the Franschhoek Valley, followed by a stint overseas as head chef at Caravelle in Saigon, which is where the Asian fusion-style influence comes from. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and while there is an obvious Asian influence, there are plenty of other more gastro-pub style items as well such as flatbreads and fish ‘n chips. There is also a good selection of craft beers and local wines on offer.

If you are visiting the area with kids, there is a great play area where they can run around, climb on the jungle gym and swing, all within view of parents. The restaurant is also pet-friendly for pooches on leads.
