One of the most iconic Kalk Bay restaurants, Harbour House was doing seafood and sea views before anyone clicked how cool it was. The food is also consistently good and you won’t go wrong, despite what you choose, but we are suckers for the honestly prepared sauteed calamari with the accompanying Mediterranean flavours. The views are really unbeatable. Be sure to call ahead and book!

Is Kalky’s technically a restaurant? We’re not sure. But if you’re doing a list of Kalk Bay restaurants, you include Kalky’s. Their no-frills attitude to serving the freshest fish and the crispiest chips has earned them a spot in the hearts of Capetonians. And, strolling over to pick up vis ‘n tjips after a long day on the beach is honestly the stuff dreams are made of.

Just as the name says, this local spot is lekker and serves up wholesome, tasty food. The vibe and service is always friendly and you can expect fresh ingredients and delicious baked goods. Lekker really celebrates South African culture and we love that. Early birds can pick up a coffee from 06h15 already, and you should probably get a croissant with that too. Look out for great deals and specials and pssst… there’s a branch in Simon’s Town too.

Do we really need to explain this one? Lucky Fish has become synonymous with freshly prepared, sustainable fish and we are huge fans. If there is a famous Kalk Bay restaurant, it’s definitely this one. Expect well-priced and fresh fish and chips, as well as tender calamari and more. Great for a quick takeaway or to sit down and eat.

There is nothing quite like Olympia Café anywhere else in Cape Town and it can only be described as a similar experience as going to grab a bite at your mate’s house. If your mate is casually cooking some of the best food in town. Honestly, everything here is great, but the mussels are always a particularly great choice. A stalwart Kalk Bay restaurant.

The Brass Bell
Whether you’re coming for lunch or drinks or the rugby, the Brass Bell never disappoints. We love it for it’s kind of grungy, pub vibe but also because they make a mean fish and chips. Come for the beers, stay for the food and stay for a while. An institution not only for the Kalk Bay area but for Cape Town in general.
